But one small thing may make the 717 a better choice to live with on a day to day basis: it has the loudness contour switch. The AU 7700 is still original and not recapped. IMO, it's worth the $$ if you can afford it. That series Sansui would put out much greater power at low impedences; the 919 was well above 300 watts at 2 ohms if I remember. I still for example lust after the 9090 as a second receiver or an integrated voiced like it. I still have the G-8000 while the AU-G77XII I send it home to the Philippines. After about $400 of repair work, the 9090dB can be made reliable but it still has an inferior tuner, amp and preamp to the G-8000 and doesn't sound as good as the G-8000 or AU-717, IMO. The 717 trades a hair of smoothness for sharper sound. Next you can consider x series. Overall a smoother sound than their later voicings. Your 9900 volume control is designed to act that way, it's unusual for a Sansui to require a volume knob setting beyond 12 o'clock to provide ear deafening volume with even semi efficient speakers, but it's true with the 9900, I have read that that's the main reason for the 9900a, customers were concerned about amp output being poor.
